Tejano settlements developed in three distinct regions: the northern Nacogdoches region, the Bexar – Goliad region along the San Antonio River, and the frontier between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande, an area used largely for ranching. The term Tejano refers to a person of Mexican descent living in Texas. With a history stretching back to Spanish colonization and early Mexican settlers, the Tejano identity represents a unique cultural blend of Mexican, Spanish, Indigenous, and American traditions. Tejano, popular music style fusing Mexican, European, and U.S. influences. Its evolution began in northern Mexico (a variation known as norteño) and Texas in the mid-19th century with the introduction of the accordion by German, Polish, and Czech immigrants. Tejanos are descendants of the Spaniards and Mestizos – Spanish, Native American, and other groups – so they are largely a mixed race people. As a group, they are identified as a Hispanic people. Texas history and the Southwest are very intricately linked to the Spanish colonial period. Back in 2016, our Founder and President, Mr. Rudi R.
