Blackfriars is a small district in the city of London. It is located on the bank of the River Thames, east of The Temple and southwest of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The area became a fashionable residential district in the early 17th century. Blackfriars, located in the southwest corner of central London, originated as a Dominican friary founded in the year 1278. The name Blackfriars comes from the color of the robes that the Dominicans wore.
