The City of Vaughan provides high-quality waste services to all Vaughan residents, including the collection of organics, garbage, leaf and yard waste, appliances and large metal items. The City of Vaughan is no longer responsible for collecting blue box materials or managing the purchase and/or replacement of new ones. Circular Materials, a non-profit organization appointed by the Province, is responsible for all aspects of the blue box program. Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, producers of recyclable materials will be operationally and financially responsible for residential blue box collection programs across the province. The City of Vaughan will no longer collect blue box recycling as of Jan. 1, 2026. This program is available to Vaughan residents only. The City of Vaughan logo must be on the bin to be eligible for a free exchange. No-charge replacements are only available through Service Vaughan. Lost, stolen or dirty green bins and kitchen containers are not eligible for replacement. The SM4RT Living Plan sets long-term waste reduction targets for garbage and organics. By 2031, the City of Vaughan’s goal is for each household in Vaughan to reduce and recycle an additional bag of garbage per collection, and reduce food waste in organics by planning, shopping and consuming all food purchased.
Garbage is collected every other week on the scheduled collection day. The garbage limit is three items every other week – including bulky items.
